Southwestern Peanut Growers Association (SWPGA) was organized and chartered in 1937 and carries out numerous functions for its members.  SWPGA also represents the interest of peanut producers nation wide in issues that are important to maintaining optimal marketing options for all peanut producers.

SWPGA FUNCTIONS INCLUDE:

* As a Cooperative Marketing Association (CMA) in effecting Marketing Assistance Loans (MLA) and Loan Deficiency Payments (LDP) to eligible peanut producers in all peanut production areas west of the Mississippi River.

* Coordinating and accomplishing efficient and profitable marketing of participating producer member(s) farmer stock peanuts that have been placed in a Market Assistance Loan through the CMA.

* Establish and operate Market Loan Pool(s) for CMA participants to obtain maximum returns on their marketing’s.

* Working collectively and cooperatively with other Grower Organizations on legislative issues at both the state and national level that directly involves the Administration of the Peanut Marketing Program for the benefit of U S peanut producers.

* Working to maintain and to secure increased state and federal funding for peanut research and extension activity for the benefit of all producers.

* Working collectively and cooperatively with other Grower Organizations and the Industry to deal effectively with challenges posed by NAFTA and GATT Agreements that would impact the effective Administration of the Peanut Marketing Program for U S peanut producers.

* Working with USDA on behalf of peanut producers to insure that regulations implementing the Administration of the Peanut Marketing Assistance Loan Program will provide each producer the provisions that are guaranteed in the Legislation.

* Working to provide SWPGA members the latest marketing, legislative and research information through their website at www.swpga.com and the Southwestern Peanut Growers’ “News” quarterly publication.

SWPGA as a CMA will provide its services to all peanut-producing states, west of the Mississippi River.  Texas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico are the major producing states but production from Arizona, Arkansas, California, Louisiana and other western states that may begin to produce peanuts will be serviced by SWPGA.

The SWPGA headquarters are located in Gorman, Texas.  A Board of 14 directors who are peanut producers administers SWPGA operations.  SWPGA’s  Manager and Assistant Manager are supported by a staff of 10 full time employees.
